You Belong in Every Room You Walk Into

Integrating CedisPay’s Two Mindset Frameworks for Financial Transformation

At CedisPay, we believe that lasting financial wellbeing begins with how you think—before how you budget, borrow, or invest. That’s why we created the Rewriting Your Money Mindset Series. To help you not just manage your money, but transform the mindset that guides it.

Over the past few months, we’ve introduced two key frameworks that build on each other:
  • Framework 1: The Ant & The Elephant – The Conscious and Unconscious Mind: Your elephant is your unconscious mind—where deep beliefs, identity, and emotions live. Your ant is your conscious mind—logical, strategic, and detail-oriented. The problem? Most people try to improve their financial life using only the ant—by budgeting harder or cutting expenses—while ignoring the elephant that’s secretly running the show. “Your conscious mind makes the decision. Your unconscious mind determines the result.” To truly transform, both must work together:
    • 🐘 Elephant (Unconscious): Vision, identity, emotions, deep beliefs
    • 🐜 Ant (Conscious): Planning, action, to-do lists, short-term focus
If your elephant is fearful or stuck in a scarcity loop, your ant will struggle—no matter how good your strategy is.
  • 🧩 Framework 2: The Elephant–Ant–Hare – Dream. Step. Run: Building on the first, we introduced a second framework—one that turns the internal battle into forward motion. This time, the animals represent the sequence of movement toward financial freedom:
    • Dream like an Elephant:
      • Dare to picture a bold financial future
      • Don’t shrink your goals to fit your current income
      • Let your inner vision guide your external strategy 📝 Example: “I want to be debt-free, own a 4-bedroom home in Accra, and build emergency savings for my family.”
    • Step like an Ant:
      • Take small, consistent steps each day
      • Build discipline through habit, not hype
      • Track, save, budget, invest—inch by inch 📝 Example: Save GH₵5 a day, track expenses, cancel unused subscriptions
    • Run like a Hare (when it matters):
      • Be ready to leap when opportunity comes
      • Don’t freeze when you finally get your break
      • Confidence = preparation + faith 📝 Example: Allocate bonuses intentionally, jump on career or investment opportunities quickly
💥 The Real Battle: “I Don’t Belong Here.”

Recently, I was reminded of how important mindset is when I rewatched a powerful Impact Theory interview with David Bayer. He tells the story of a 29-year-old Egyptian entrepreneur—already a multimillionaire—who found himself out with some of the world’s most powerful movers and shakers. But in that moment, anxiety hit. He called David and said, “I don’t belong here.” David coached him to see what was really happening: A primal lie was taking over—one rooted in fear and unconscious programming. But once he saw it clearly, he could disarm it. (see link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCIBQigXR8I)

📖 What the Bible Says

“The steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord.” – Psalm 37:23 If your feet have brought you into a room, you were meant to be there. No title, net worth, accent, or passport can disqualify you. You are not behind. You are not an imposter. You are worthy—because you’re already there.

👤 My Story: From Junior Associate to National Technical Lead

In 2005, after just two years at PwC Ghana, I was still an associate—one of the most junior in the office. Then something unexpected happened: Charles Egan, our Country Leader, nominated me to represent PwC on the national IFRS Adoption Committee. I walked into that room to find it filled with Big 4 partners and senior national decision-makers. I could have said: “I don’t belong here.” But I didn’t. Instead, I told myself: “If I’m in the room, I’m meant to contribute.” The result? Those very leaders nominated me as the technical lead and public spokesperson for Ghana’s IFRS transition. I went on to speak at the British Council, national events, and media platforms across the country. All because I believed I belonged—and acted like it.

🔄 Putting It All Together
Mindset Layer Symbol Function Action
Unconscious 🐘 Vision, identity, deep beliefs Write your ideal financial life
Conscious 🐜 Steps, strategy, daily habits Track, save, budget, repeat
Opportunity 🐇 Speed, agility, timing Jump when the moment arrives
✅ Your Personal Action Plan
  • Dream Like an Elephant: What does your best financial future look like? Write it down
  • Step Like an Ant: Pick one small habit to stick with for 30 days
  • Run Like a Hare: The next time a door opens—step through without hesitation
  • Silence the Lie: Catch yourself when the voice says: “I’m not enough.” Respond with: “My steps are ordered. I belong here.”
